Mark Whelan

National Training and Partnership Coordinator - Parents Against Child Exploitation (PACE)

Mark worked for Lancashire Constabulary for 24 years, gaining experience across specialisms as an Intelligence Officer, CID Detective and Public Protection Officer. For over 14 years, Mark managed a co-located multi agency child exploitation team that was one of the first in the UK to deal with child sexual exploitation as a specialism. Receiving numerous awards, the team was recommended by OFSTED as being an exemplar to dealing with the complex issues that arose during exploitation investigations. Mark retired from the force in 2019 having served the majority of his career as a child-centric officer working with exploited children. He was awarded an MBE for his services to policing by Queen Elizabeth II in her 2020 Birthday Honours list.

Mark now works for Pace where he uses his experience designing and delivering training on child exploitation and helps drive growth of Pace’s Relational Safeguarding Model though the development of partnerships.
